March 15 2020,
Julian offers a breath and writing experience to help you tune in with your creative sphere. To use your imagination to create a space, a room. And to help shine light on the idea that whatever it is that we see in front of us is a projection of how we feel inside.
Breath Style : Tonglen Breath
Breath is the common denominator for all beings. Despite our individual experiences in life, the shared experience of breathing shows that we are all ultimately equal. Each being's suffering and wellbeing is as worthy of our attention, love and healing energy as our own. This class is a series of writing prompts and breath practices, specifically the Tibetan Buddhist Tonglen Breath, that facilitate a shift in our focus from the self to the collective. This practice tunes us into our shared humanity, creative expression and ability to metabolize and alchemize suffering into something beautiful, meaningful and helpful.
About Your Guide : Julian Gilbey is a native New Yorker with a background in Madhyamaka Buddhist philosophy and creative writing. He believes that the breath and written word are extremely powerful tools that can not only facilitate personal growth and wellbeing, but can also bring about deeper connection and compassion for others as well. His work reflects the idea that it is our responsibility to ease as much suffering as we can - both our own and that of sentient beings around us.
How to Prepare : Something to write with (pen/pencil), something to write on (a few sheets of paper), someplace to sit upright comfortably (a couch, a chair, a yoga mat, a block). Light your favorite candle, make your favorite tea or cocktail - whatever may help you drop into a place of calm and connectedness! Let's enjoy the opportunity to breathe and write with our fellow humans.
